November 27 – Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!

ON THANKSGIVING

Today, and every day …

May you be filled with Light, Love and Gratitude!

May your brilliance be reflected in the eyes of all you meet.

May the blessings of Life be felt in thought, word and deed.

May you drink deeply from Wisdom’s cup.

May you see the gift in every challenge, the sacred in every step.

May laughter roll your belly as you delight in Creation’s mystery.

May you breathe freely,Love deeply, rejoice wildly and create passionately.

May you be at peace, whether your bowl be empty or full.

May the Light of Love shine brightly upon your soul.

May you listen deeply within, faithfully heeding the guidance of Spirit.

May you wake to dream each day, remembering NOW is all there IS.

May you feel the energy of co-creation flowing through each hand.

May you remember to honor and give thanks for our Mother Earth!

May you experience the bliss of a well-lived day …

Forgiving ignorance; releasing regret, guilt or shame.

May you be sovereign, and to thine own Self be true.

May you remember each person makes a difference …

… and that person is YOU!

Among my most favorite stretches of highway is Route 229 through Secret Pass and Ruby Valley, south of Elko. Regardless of season, the jagged mountain peaks and pastoral canyons bring an endorphin rush to rival any medicine or therapy. Traffic is usually light, and there are many places to pull off of the pavement.

I prefer to travel this passage alone, because I am so often consumed the by magnificent views along this road, the trip that most people take in two-and-a-half hours can easily take me five.

November 3 –Steam rises from Salvis Warm Spring

I love mornings like this! After our recent snow and rain showers, the colors are fresh and clear, bringing everything into high contrast.

I took a drive by Salvi’s Ranch, and was pleased to find steam rising from the warm spring pond, mimicking the bank of clouds that drifted along the floor of Steptoe Valley, held there by cold air temperatures above.

November 1-2 –

We knew it was inevitable: Winter.  Throughout October, people of this valley daily remarked about - and reveled in – our unseasonably mild and balmy Indian Summer weather.

November has arrived, and with it, icy rain and snow on the high peaks. It is a beautiful time of year, as the snow sands away the last remaining leaves, replacing them with diamond-like crystals. Now, as it is throughout the rest of the year, we appreciate the importance of living in this moment, and try not to project into February — how tired we might become of monochrome landscapes, and heavy winter coats.

To compound the chill — yesterday morning, we learned of the tragic death of a young man who had been a resident of Cherry Creek since mid-summer, Glen Richards.  Few of us knew the lad well, so any effort at eulogy here would be futile. Our sympathies go out to Glen’s father, Mark.

  2. I am so surprised to find this blog. I saw you on Sue Henry’s blogroll. We had the Great Basin as a destination on our trip this October, but had to cut it when we had to shorten our trip. I love seeing these photos, and now I am even more inspired to get there on my next trip out west. Thank you.
